Social and Technological Determinism

Social Determinism: The belief that society is an autonomous force shaping technology, cultural values, social structure and/or history; society is a key governing force in society. It is a simply theory based on cause and effect. It is considered the opposite of Technological Determinism in media studies.

Technological Determinism: The belief that autonomous technology determines a society’s cultural values, social structure and/or history; technology is a key governing force in society. The technology develops independently, expands forward and outwardly, is irreversible and unstoppable. It is a simple theory based on cause and effect. It is considered the opposite of Social Determinism in media studies.
