Sandra Seekins mini-lecture takes up Bio-Art and Bio-Artists. She asks what does it mean for the definition of “art” and “artist” if living tissues and biotechnologies become the raw materials and creative techniques of contemporary artists? What are the ethical dilemmas they face? How does it change the dynamic of “collaboration”?

Finishing Up February

1. CNET Film Series – Wed, Feb 27th
The Spring 2008 Film Series features an exciting array of student screenings, faculty speakers and guest speakers. This term students and faculty from CultureNet and the Capilano Film Centre will be collaborating at our three noon hour events. The screenings + talkback sessions begin at 12:30 p.m. and run for 50 minutes.

This Wednesday explores “The Art of Seduction – Films for Cell Phones”. Jim Wallace (Film Centre) and Andrew Klobucar (English/CultureNet) will be screening and talking about the art and science of making short short films for delivery on mobile phones. Bring your phone – you won’t be asked to turn it off!

Finishing Up February

Three Events on Deck

1. CNET Film Series – Wed, Feb 27th

The Spring 2008 Film Series features an exciting array of student screenings, faculty speakers and guest speakers. CultureNet: Twice the Opportunities

January Admissions

As of January 2008, there are now two admission cycles for CultureNet with September and January starts on the books. The deadline for January 08 admissions is 13 January 2008. For more information, please contact culturenet@capcollege.bc.ca

2008 activities will include the Spring CNET Film Series, guest speakers and further colloborations between CultureNet and Global Stewardship.

There is also a Program Information Night scheduled for Tuesday, November 6th at 7pm in Library 321/2. Swing by after viewing the CNET Film Series offering earlier that afternoon where Aurelea Mahood will hosting a screening of Charlie Chaplin’s MODERN TIMES and talkback session in Cedar 148 at 3:30pm.

Upcoming CultureNet Program Information Night

When? Wednesday, February 28th @ 7pm

Sandra Seekins is giving prospective CultureNet students a taste of the program art history-style when she gives a talk on contemporary art and techonology at this Wednesday’s CultureNet Program Information Night at the North Vancouver campus of Capilano College.

Sandra’s talk will be followed by an overview of the program and future academic/career options for program graduates.
